What is a biweekly payment schedule? ›

Biweekly pay describes when employees are paid every other week on a specific day of the week. For example, if you want to establish a biweekly pay schedule, you might choose to pay your employees every other Friday. Since every calendar year has 52 weeks, this results in a total of 26 paychecks per year.

That being said you may receive an email from ADP stating that your pay was processed before the Friday payday. Just because you received a pay statement notification email does not mean that the pay has already been deposited into your account. You will be paid on the Friday of the week that you received that email.

The months in which you take home three checks depends on your pay schedule. If your first paycheck in 2022 is scheduled for Friday, January 7, your three-paycheck months will be April and September. If your first paycheck in 2022 is Friday, January 14, your three-paycheck months are July and December.

Biweekly Payroll Calendar

Generally, there are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year, but depending on how the days of the week fall, there could be 27 pay periods. In some months, the regular pay date will occur three times rather than two.

However, in some years, such as 2021, there are 27 biweekly pay periods. This is because January first was a Friday, resulting in a total of 53 Fridays in 2021. This can happen for other days and years as well and can particularly affect companies that deliver biweekly or weekly paychecks on those particular days.

To view and adjust payroll projection dates: From the Time & Attendance menu, select Setup. Note : If the Setup option is not visible, make sure that you have selected Practitioner in the Role Selector. Under the Dates heading on the Setup page, click the Projected Pay Cycles link.

To move a pay cycle to the next pay period: From the Manager Home page, click the Move to Next Pay Period icon. The Move to Next Pay Period page opens, which lists all pay cycles that you have access to in your company.

If you need to unlock the pay cycle so that employees can continue to record their time through the end of the pay period, click the locked pay cycle name on the End of Period page and then click the Unlock Pay Cycle button on the End of Period Operations Step 1 page.
